do we ever learn

write our epitaph

It didn't take long
before the surge had gone
the divide between the greed and her pain

music (and lyrics): Trewavas Blackwood Armstrong
The battle that took place between Human Nature and Mother Nature throughout the end section of The Confluence is over.

Mother Nature has taken back the earth but perhaps our lost soul ... the old salt of a sea captain ... lives on where he is now part of the sea where he had always felt more at home anyway. Now he is there for eternity.

Because of this ... the ending section of this is not as dark as the previous epic finales of previous Edison's Children albums and almost uplifting despite the loss of not only our captain but for nearly all of humanity as well.
One of the interesting things about the album's "re-mastering" (that was done before its initial release) is that the lyrics in this song suddenly came to life, but were never intended to actually be "heard".

The lyrics were supposed to seem as a ghostly echo from beyond in almost the same way that if you listen closely enough to "Los Endos" at the end of Genesis' "Trick of the Tail" ... during the last section when "Squonk" is reprised, you can almost hear Phil Collins singing something but you can't really figure out what it is. That was Eric Blackwood's intention for the lyrics on Resurgence. The end of the Resurgence was supposed to be about the 4 lead guitar lines coming together in a beautiful harmony with each other while a sparkly fireworks guitar played while a ghostly voice could faintly be heard in the background. Unfortunately in the final mixdown the "sparkly fireworks guitar" wound up the thing that couldn't really be heard while the vocals which were supposed to be barely audible if heard at all, were quite high in the mix.

When the album was remastered, they attempted to revive the lost "sparkly fireworks guitar" however many of the sounds that were tucked quietly away suddenly became brighter and more to the surface, which was great in nearly every aspect except for the fact that the lyrics which were once buried became uncovered. Hiding them again would have also meant hiding the guitar lines which were in the same EQ chain register so there was no way to tuck them back again. Unfortunately, the "sparkly guitar" was also still barely audible.

Because of the uncovering of the vocals...  when the song was played live during the 50th Anniversary Celebration for Apollo 11, Eric Blackwood sung the vocals live because he felt that people would be expecting to hear them now so... they were sung.

Perhaps one of Wendy Darling's most striking pieces of art is the cover of the song "Resurgence" where the sea angel rises up to the heavens over a deep abyssal blue background. The photo was taken at the Isle of Wight Bay in Ocean City Maryland during one of Edison's Children's earliest recording sessions when "Lifeline" and the "Slow Burn" section of "The Awakening" along with parts of A Random Occurrence / A Random Disturbance which were now starting to come to life. Wendy took these photos during a break in the recording sessions from the deck of the studio as electrical and tornadic storms kept coming by throughout the week. The photos without the tornado would be used for Resurgence. The photos with the tornado would be superimposed for the album cover.
